About the event
The spring concert honors the ever-evolving splendor of nature, highlighting variation as it manifests in life and the seasons. It features two compositions that, despite being created 150 years apart, share a similar structural foundation in Theme and Variations.
The program includes Rachmaninoff's intense and virtuosic "Corelli Variations" (1931) alongside Mozart's eminently elegant Piano Sonata No. 11 (1783), notable for its unique use of the Theme and Variations format in the first movement instead of the conventional Sonata form.
These enchanting illustrations of the Theme and Variations technique are complemented by Tchaikovsky's charming if also wistful depictions of spring from "The Seasons."
